Sakyamuni is the founder of Buddhism. His lay family name was Gautama and his name was Siddhartha. He was born in 624 BC to King Suddhodana of Kapilavastu and Queen Maya in Lumbini Park in present-day Nepal.
佛教创始人释迦牟尼，俗姓乔答摩，名悉达多，公元前624年生于现今尼泊尔境内的蓝毗尼园。他的父亲是统治古印度迦毗罗卫国的净饭王，母亲是摩耶夫人。
King Suddhodana and Queen Maya did not have any child for many years. When Queen Maya was pregnant with Siddhartha, she had to return to her maiden home to deliver her child according to Indian tradition. So the King sent a royal guard to escort the Queen to her home city of Devadarsita.
摩耶夫人和净饭王结婚多年才怀孕，按照当时印度的风俗，夫人要回娘家待产，因此国外特派人护送夫人往她娘家天臂城。
At the junction of Kapilavastu and the city of Devadarsita was a place called Lumbini Park. The Queen rested herself in the park under the sala trees. There, she gave birth to the Prince.
途径迦毗罗卫国与天臂城交界的地方，有一座蓝毗尼花园，夫人于园中一颗葱翠的无忧树下休息时，就在树下顺利地产下了太子。
It was the day of the full moon in May. The weather was nice and a gentle breeze was blowing. All the flowers in the park were blooming, emitting fragrant scents, and all the birds were singing melodious tunes. Together, they seemed to have created a fairyland on earth to celebrate the birth of the Prince.
那天是五月的月圆日，天朗气清，惠风和畅，园中百花齐放，吐出柔和芬芳的香味，百鸟争鸣，洋溢着美妙欢畅的音声，一幅人间仙境的景致，似乎都在庆贺太子的诞生。
At that time, the Earth shook, and from the sky, two silvery currents of pure water gushed down, one was warm and the other cool, which bathed the body of the Prince.
当时大地震动，天空直泻两道银色的甘露净水，一是温暖的，一是清凉的，沐浴着太子的身体。
King Suddhodana envisioned the future for the Prince and hoped that he would grow up to be a Cakravarti, not only good at ruling his own country, but also capable of unifying all India to become the World’s eminent monarch.
国王憧憬着太子的未来，希望能成为‘转轮圣王’，不但善于治理本国，而且能统一全印度，成为世界英明的君主。
